Dr. Mark Seeley: A Reconstruction of the Storm That Sank the Edmund Fitzgerald - NEW
The storm that sank the Edmund Fitzgerald on November 10, 1975 was one of the worst in Great Lakes weather history and is one of the most studied as well. Climate scientists and meteorologists have reconstructed this storm using wave models and storm models. Hour by hour the storm intensified and worsened as the Fitzgerald made its way across Lake Superior that fateful day. Dr. Seeley will share perspectives on the storm from both the American and Canadian Weather Services and show the very treacherous conditions that eventually doomed the vessel. He will also share some thoughts on improvements in forecasting that have been made since that time.
