Calling all crafty kids! Join our Monthly Crafting Club where imagination comes to life. Bring your own masterpiece-in-progress and dive into one of our fun, themed crafts. This class is for those who love to create things with their hands. Students will learn how to create a variety of decorative objects out of clay using a pottery wheel, slab roller and extruder. We’ll also experiment with different types of clay and colored glazes. Students are encouraged to bring an apron or towel, as well as clothing that can get messy, as working with clay is a hands-on creative process. In addition to creating pieces to keep, students will create handmade bowls for an upcoming Empty Bowls event. Empty Bowls, founded in 2012, is a community-driven initiative to raise awareness about hunger, foster community connections, and generate funds for local organizations addressing hunger and homelessness. Students will craft their own unique bowls, which will later be featured in the Empty Bowls event to help raise funds for various local organizations. This opportunity combines artistic exploration with meaningful community impact, allowing students to contribute to a cause while also learning a new skill! A $35 supply fee is due to the instructor on the first day of class (cash, Venmo, or check). You will be notified when you can pick up your finished pieces from the Mahtomedi District Education Center.

Our natural world has always played a role in the clothing that we wear! Students will connect nature to current fashion through creation with processes such as grass weaving, making dyes from plants, and creating designs based on nature. We will also learn about making sustainable fashion with upcycling and recycling activities. This class is a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities so students should wear weather appropriate clothing and closed-toed shoes! Students will take home their creations on the last day.

Turn your creativity into something you can wear and share! In Merch Lab, students will design their own T-shirts, stickers, and buttons using the same digital art tools that real designers use. Throughout camp, participants will learn how to bring their ideas to life on screen, experiment with bold colors and unique styles, and watch their creations transform into real, take-home merchandise. Each camper will receive a custom T-shirt and a full set of stickers and buttons featuring their designs. Whether you’re an aspiring artist or just love creating cool stuff, Merch Lab is your chance to show off your style and walk away with one-of-a-kind gear! *Items will be created post-camp and mailed to you due to production time.

Join us for this one of a kind hands on class to learn about how ethnobotany, nature, and chemistry combine to create beauty and spa products! This class will cover a variety of topics and skills including how to make essential oils from plants and how to use those oils to make candles, bath bombs, lotions, and other spa products. We also will dive into a variety of other ways to use plants and natural materials for beauty items including drying herbs, lip gloss, face masks, and more! We look forward to you joining us for this nature class that teaches about beauty products through chemistry and how the materials are sourced from the natural world! Students will bring home any items made during this camp.

In this fun, hands-on class, students will learn the basics of sewing while creating a project from scratch. We will practice both hand sewing and sewing machine skills in a supportive and creative environment. Students will work with a variety of materials and tools, learning the basics to continue outside of class. Sewing machines and all other materials are provided during class and no experience is necessary!
