Family and Friends CPR and First Aid (ages 9+)General Interest & moreThis interactive course will educate your whole family on essential lifesaving skills you will need during the first few minutes of an emergency, including CPR for adults, children, and infants along with basic first aid procedures. Build your confidence through lecture and hands-on practice the emergency lifesaving skills. We will discuss and practice CPR techniques, airway blockages, bleeding control, burns, environmental emergencies, and more. Included in your registration fee, each participant will receive American Heart Association’s Family & Friends® CPR student manual, which includes a participation wallet card. This course is for anyone ages 9 and up. We encourage you to bring your whole family (up to 4 people) for a discounted rate! Students under 16 years of age must be accompanied by a registered adult. Getting Started in Hydroponic Gardening - NEWGeneral Interest & moreThis class will focus on growing edible things--fruits and vegetables--rather than flowers. You'll get an overview of hydroponics and how it compares to soil-based gardening. We'll briefly review several common hydroponic techniques and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques. The focus of the class will be on one particular technique, "Deep Water Culture." A variation on this technique will be used in a simple, hands-on project you'll work on at home, which will involve growing a head of lettuce. The goals of this project will be to give you experience with some of the basics of hydroponic growing and to provide knowledge that will help you step up to more complex systems that are capable of growing a wider variety of crops, if you choose to do so later. You'll receive a kit with most of the supplies you'll need for the project, along with instructions on how to complete it at home2026 Fall -

Introduction to Shinrin-Yoku: Forest Walking Meditation - FREEGeneral Interest & moreThis session is an introduction to Forest Bathing, an ancient Japanese practice of spending time in nature, specifically in areas with trees, to enhance well-being. The term "bathing" is used because participants immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the forest (nothing to do with actual water or bathing). Learn more about Forest Bathing here. This event will include a brief overview of Forest Bathing and followed by a slow walk through the trails of Katherine Abbott park, allowing each person to observe and feel immersed in the surroundings. Participants must be able to walk the gravel (and in some places uneven) path. Wear bug spray or sunscreen as needed. Participants will be asked to silence phones during the session. We will cancel if rain prevents us from being outside. It is the perfect class for those with limited knowledge or experience usingpower tools. Graduates of the introductory class or individuals who are more experienced can attend the advancedclass. It’s like a traditional book club but swaps out the latest best-selling novel with award-winning programs from your local PBS station. Attendees, will participate in a 2-hour sessions that includes:An introduction to the topic, viewing a selected PBS program (30-60 minutes, all with captions), guided group discussion, post-viewing reflection and resources to deepen understanding and connection A light snack and Twin Cities PBS-branded giveaways that help create a shared experience. The sessions are designed to spark conversation, encourage reflection, and foster community connection.
