They offer ACT Preparatory Courses in more than 40 high schools in Minneapolis/St. Paul and the surrounding area. These courses are designed for students who wish to improve their test-taking skills and improve their overall scores on the college entrance exams. Students who finish the course increase their scores significantly. Advantage Education will provide an introduction to the ACT format with strategies for answering questions, as well as instruction for the specific subject areas tested. Focal points of the program include diagnostic testing, vocabulary development, intensive mathematical review, reading comprehension improvement, science reasoning, concentration improvement, overcoming test anxiety, essay writing, and time management. Three learning opportunities are available to register for the ACT Test Prep Course: In-person classroom: the course includes diagnostic testing, instruction in time management, overcoming test anxiety, science reasoning, English strategies and review, essay writing, reading comprehension, and math strategies and review. Students enrolled in these classes not only benefit from personal instruction taught by our experienced instructors but also have free access to our online course. Students may repeat this course online at no extra charge. This is held at MHS. Virtual classroom: virtual classroom meets for three hours, one day each week, for four weeks and is taught live, via Zoom, by an Advantage instructor who provides instruction and interaction with the students. Internet connection and access to a computer or laptop is required. Online at your own pace: online students prep for the ACT at their own pace and around their busy schedules. Instruction is pre-recorded and provided online via videos and slides. Students may access this course at any time and as often as needed. Become your own cake boss! Decorate an 8'' celebration cake to take home and gain skills in designing shell borders, writing messages, and creating stars and rosettes. Instructor: Wilton Expert, Diane Hirte

Students will take their fire skills to the next level by not only learning how to make fire and different fire structures, but the science of using fire to cook various foods! This class will teach all the basics like s’mores and tin foil packets up to more advanced skills like dutch oven baking and spit roasting over the fire. These campfire chefs will know how to make full course meals by the end of class, in addition to fire safety. We will also explore safety of foraging for ingredients as well! *There will be substitutions for dietary needs such as vegan and gluten-free for recipes. Ready to take the wheel of your car knowledge? This hands-on class is perfect for anyone ages 13 and up who want to understand the fundamentals of vehicle maintenance. Whether you’re preparing to get your driver’s license, are a new driver, or just want to feel more confident around a car, this course will teach you essential skills every driver should know. Participants will learn how to: Perform tire checks and basic maintenance, including checking pressure and tread depth Check and top off essential fluids (oil, coolant, windshield washer fluid, brake fluid) Test and maintain a car battery Replace windshield wipers and check air and cabin filters Inspect serpentine belts and hoses Test all lights including headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and running lights Understand warning lights on the dashboard and what they mean Perform basic interior and exterior cleaning for vehicle upkeep Taught by a 916 Career and Technical Center instructor, this class will allow you to gain the confidence to handle basic car care and spot issues before they become costly problems through demonstrations and hands-on interactive instruction.

Students will begin by creating stop-motion movies starring Mario and friends, learning how to plan, animate, and edit their own short films. As the week continues, they’ll shift into coding, building Nintendo-inspired games such as maze challenges, coin-catching adventures, and drawing with Pikachu. Each day introduces a new hands-on project that blends coding, animation, and storytelling while encouraging creativity and problem-solving. Basic reading skills are recommended. Get ready to explore the world of horses with an exciting, hands-on experience based on the Spark Equestrian curriculum. At Hardwood Creek Farm, students will learn the fundamentals of horse care, from grooming and halter leading to handling reins and beginner riding commands, just like in a first riding lesson! We will finish the day with some making homemade horse treats and playing a few games! Don’t worry about the weather, we have an indoor heated arena as well as outdoor spaces. Students should come dressed for adventure: long pants, closed-toe shoes, and layers for indoor and outdoor activities. Students will also need a water bottle and a nut-free lunch.
