Learn the fundamentals, effective responses to practical situations, and experience hands-on exercises. This class includes discussion on boundaries, saying 'no', de-escalation, and the importance of taking care of ourselves. We will learn the most critical elements to keep us safe and practice self-awareness. We will also punch, kick, block, yell, and more. Build a strong foundation for strength and confidence. Service Learning Days (grades 6-8)Academics & LearningService Learning Days give middle school students the opportunity to learn through meaningful action in their community. These opportunities include hands-on service allowing students to make a difference while learning why their impact matters. Lunch and transportation from the Mahtomedi District Education Center to our destination and back is provided. Friday, November 6th - Students will visit Encore Assisted Living and Memory Care in a hands-on, intergenerational experience centered around connection, creativity, and kindness. By combining direct interaction with continued service work, this experience helps students understand how small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference in their community. The day will begin with a visit to Encore, where students will paint pumpkins with the residents! After painting, everyone will gather to enjoy a seasonal fall treat, giving students and residents additional time to connect and build community. Following the visit, students will return to the District Education Center to enjoy lunch. Then we will transition into a service project of assembling senior care kits. Working collaboratively, we will pack items such as comfort supplies, handwritten notes, treats, and small gifts intended to brighten the day of seniors in our community.2026 Fall -

Ski & Snowboard Club (grades 6-10)Ski & SnowboardFour fun Friday nights have been scheduled for Mahtomedi Middle & High School students to ski or snowboard at Trollhaugen. Spend time with friends and make new ones on the slopes. If a student has a season pass to Trollhaugen, select the discounted rate. Students with ski passes are responsible for getting their own lift ticket at the resort. A copy of the pass is required to be provided by Dec. 20 to stephanie.groff@isd832.net. Students MUST ride the bus both ways (all Ski & Snowboard Club members are committing to transportation to and from the ski resort provided by the program). Cost includes motor coach transportation to and from resorts, lift ticket, on-site supervision. Rental Equipment not included in cost. Registration Deadline is Dec. 1. No refund after registration deadline. No refunds issued for injuries or missed dates. Fees may be broken into two payments – with the first half due at registration, and the second half charged to the card on file before the first night. To pay in two installments, call Community Education at 651-407-2018. In case of weather cancellation, additional Fridays will be added beginning with Feb. 19. (all materials are YOURS to bring home). You have the choice to bring your own food scale or we will provide one for you to keep for an additional $15 fee.
